Michaluk History in Australia

In this section we will try to trace the Michaluk family arriving in Australia and subsequent events.

1950 - ARRIVED IN AUSTRALIA
Jan and his wife Anna (nee Ginter) arrived in Australia about 9th December, 1950, on the ship Protea 3. They had one child, Zygmunt, who was 4 at the time.

First stay was at a migrant hostel in Rushworth (in the northern region of central Victoria - north of Melbourne). Some records and recollections show that the family lived at Bonegilla - a town in regional Victoria.
Jan began working with the railways. Whilst at Rushworth, their second child (Ursula) was born on 5th May, 1951.

Second stay was at Sommers migrant camp located in the Peninsula region of Melbourne's south. During this period, their third child (George - the webmaster) was born on 1st October, 1953. The family later bought a house in Bowes Avenue, Essendon - a Melbourne western suburb.
